When Forty Feet Is the Right Call
The jump from twenty feet to forty is not a small upgrade. A 40ft container gives you roughly 40' of length against the same 8' width, and the usable interior runs close to 39'5". That length suits equipment dealers, contractors staging a long job, farms storing feed and implements, and anyone who has already outgrown a smaller box and does not want two of them sitting in a row.
Standard exterior height is 8'6". The 40ft high cube stands 9'6", adding a foot of vertical room across the whole length. On a unit this long that extra foot adds up to real cubic capacity, which is why high cube is the common choice for conversions, workshops and anything that gets a finished ceiling.
Door and access options
Length creates a specific problem: whatever goes in first ends up forty feet from the door. Access options exist to solve that.
- End-to-end tunnel. Cargo doors on both ends. Load from either direction, or walk straight through without climbing over anything.
- Open side doors. Doors along the long wall, giving you access to the middle of the container instead of only the ends.
- Roll-up side doors. Shutter-style openings on the side that need no swing room, handy in a tight equipment yard.
- Standard cargo doors. One end, double swing. Simplest and the best seal.
Condition grades
Most of our 40ft container stock is new or one-trip. Those units have made a single loaded voyage, so paint is factory-applied, seals are supple and the marine plywood floor is unmarked. We also carry used and refurbished 40ft containers. Refurbished means the unit has been cleaned up and repainted after inspection; used units are sold as wind and watertight or cargo-worthy and will show honest wear.
On any long container, check the roof for low spots that pond water, look at the bottom rails and forklift pockets for rot-through rather than surface rust, and open and close both doors fully. Read more about grading in the buyer's guide.
Getting a 40ft Container Onto Your Property
This is the part people underestimate. Delivery is by tilt-bed trailer, and a 40ft container needs a long, straight, firm approach with clearance overhead. Walk the route before you order.
- Confirm the truck can enter and leave without a tight reverse or a three-point turn.
- Plan for roughly 100 feet of straight run to tilt and slide the container off.
- Check overhead lines, tree limbs and gate heights along the full path.
- Make sure the ground is firm. Wet clay and fresh fill will bog a loaded trailer.
- Set blocking at the corners so the frame stays level and the doors stay square.
Level matters more on a long box than a short one. Twist in the frame shows up first as doors that will not latch.
Ordering and delivery terms
We ship to the Lower 48 states at a flat $500 per order, calculated at checkout, paid by Direct Bank Transfer. Handling takes one to three business days and transit usually runs three to seven. A 30-day return policy applies, with return freight and a possible restocking fee. Track progress any time on the order tracking page.
Still weighing sizes? Look at the high cube range if headroom is a factor, or browse the full catalog. We are based in Greenbrier, Arkansas, north of Conway.
