30ft Containers (Non-Standard Size)

30ft containers are a non-standard length, usually cut-down conversions rather than factory builds, so availability is limited and each unit differs.

What Makes a 30ft Container Non-Standard

Almost all ISO container production runs to two lengths: 20ft and 40ft. Those are the sizes the global shipping system is built around, so those are the sizes factories turn out in volume. A 30ft container sits outside that. It is not a defect and it is not a lesser product, but it does mean the supply works differently.

Most 30ft containers reaching the market are conversions rather than factory lengths — a 40ft unit cut down and re-ended, then resprayed and refitted. Done properly, with a reinforced end frame and correct welding, a cut-down 30ft container is sound and long-lived. Done badly, it is not. That is why the specific unit matters more here than in a standard size category.

Who Actually Needs 30ft

The usual reason is geometry. A 40ft container needs a long, straight approach for the delivery trailer and a long clear pad at the far end. Plenty of yards, rural lots and commercial sites cannot give it that, but have more room than a 20ft would use. Thirty feet is the compromise:

  • Sites where the truck cannot swing a full 40ft into position.
  • Setbacks, easements or a permitted footprint that a 40ft would exceed.
  • Storage needs that outgrew a 20ft but do not justify doubling the length.
  • Conversions where 30ft is simply the right interior run for the layout.

What We Carry in This Size

Stock is a mix of new, used and refurbished, and it moves around. Units that pass through this category include:

  • Refurbished 30ft containers with a roll-up side door, in COR-TEN weathering steel.
  • One-trip 30ft cut-down containers, resprayed and fitted with a lockbox, some with reinforced end framing.
  • Used 30ft wind and watertight units with electric heating and lighting already fitted.
  • Used 30ft bulk open-top containers, some cargo worthy with a valid CSC plate.

Confirm the Unit Before You Buy

Because these are individual units rather than a repeating product line, check the listing for the things that will affect you: whether it is a factory length or a cut-down, whether the end frame is reinforced, the condition grade, whether a CSC plate is present, and what door configuration it has. An open-top is a very different container from a closed box with a side door. If anything is unclear, get in touch before ordering rather than after.

Availability Is Limited

We cannot promise a 30ft container in a given condition or door layout at any given moment, because the supply simply is not continuous the way it is for standard lengths. If timing is tight, it is worth looking at the standard sizes in parallel.

Standard Alternatives

If your site can take it, a standard length is easier to source, easier to replace and easier to resell. 20ft containers are the most manoeuvrable option and fit most driveways and pads. 40ft containers give the most volume per dollar of delivery. Measure your access route honestly before ruling either out — the deciding factor is usually turning room, not total space.

Delivery and Ordering

Shipping is a flat $500 per order anywhere in the Lower 48, shown at checkout, with no hidden fees. Handling takes 1–3 business days, transit typically 3–7. Delivery is by tilt-bed trailer and the container is placed where you need it, so the pad should be level, firm and reachable. Every unit is inspected before dispatch. There is a 30-day return policy; return freight and a restocking fee may apply. For background on condition grades and site prep, see the buyers guide.
