This category covers our compact units — roughly 8ft and 10ft footprints — and it is less about plain empty boxes than most people expect. A lot of what lands here is specialty: small containers already built out for a job, certified for offshore lifting, or fitted with doors and floors you will not find on a standard box.
Why Buyers Choose a Small Footprint Container
Small containers solve problems that a 20ft cannot. They fit through a gate, sit on a compact pad, tuck against a building line, and can be repositioned without a major delivery operation. If your site is tight, or if the container has to share space with vehicles and equipment, the smaller footprint is often the difference between workable and not.
They also suit anyone who wants a self-contained unit rather than storage volume. A small container that arrives with electrics, a floor and a finished interior does a job on day one.
What Turns Up in This Category
- Accommodation units — 10ft builds fitted with a stove and electrics, set up as a compact living or crew space.
- Bar containers — 10ft units with a steel awning, made for serving from an opening rather than storing behind doors.
- Offshore half-height open-tops — 10ft DNV 2.7-1 units, certified to EN 12079 and ISO/CSC, built for lifting in an offshore environment.
- One-trip high cubes — 10ft units with Keruing-Apitong hardwood floors and the extra interior height of a high cube.
- Refrigerated units — a small reefer where you need cold storage but not a full-length machine.
- Roll-up door conversions — 10ft containers with an end roll-up door, so nothing swings out into your working space.
Stock here is mostly new or one-trip, with a smaller number of used and refurbished units. Because these are specialty builds rather than a repeating standard product, the specification varies unit to unit. Read the individual listing, and if a detail matters to your install, ask us before ordering.
Offshore and Lifting Certification
DNV 2.7-1 with EN 12079 is a different standard from ordinary ISO shipping certification. It governs units designed to be lifted offshore, where the container is hoisted repeatedly in motion rather than craned once onto a chassis. If you need that certification, buy a unit that carries it. If you do not, a standard small container will cost less and do the same storage job.
Doors, Floors and Openings
On a small container, the door choice matters more than it does on a 40ft. Standard cargo doors need swing clearance at one end, which can eat the space you were trying to save. An end roll-up door removes that problem. Flooring is worth checking too: Keruing-Apitong hardwood handles rolling loads and point loads better than a thin plywood repair.
Small Containers Compared With 10ft Standard Stock
If you want a straightforward 10ft box without the specialty fit-out, the 10ft containers category is the better place to start. Buyers who find the small footprint too limiting usually step up to 20ft containers, which give roughly double the floor area on a pad most sites can still accommodate.
Ordering and Delivery
Shipping is a flat $500 per order to anywhere in the Lower 48, shown at checkout. Order handling takes 1–3 business days and transit is typically 3–7. Delivery is by tilt-bed trailer, which places the container where you want it. Every unit is inspected before dispatch. Common questions about access, placement and returns are answered in our FAQ.
