Description
A Light Three-Horse Built Around Airflow
Ventilation is the thing riders notice first in a loaded trailer on a warm day, and this 1999 Sundowner was laid out with that in mind. Drop-down windows with drop-down bars run along the head side, bus windows open on the butt side and in the rear doors, and pop-up roof vents sit over each stall. The result is a three-horse that moves air through the whole box instead of only at the front.
The numbers suit riders who do not want to tow more trailer than they need. At 7 ft 2 in tall, 6 ft 7 in wide and 4,070 lb empty, this Sundowner sits at the lighter end of the three-horse class, which makes a real difference to fuel use and to how the rig feels behind a mid-size truck.
Inside, rubber wall and floor mats cushion legs and make cleanup quicker, feeding bags keep hay contained, and a folding removable rear tack room lets you choose between maximum storage and maximum stall space depending on the trip. Three saddle racks, bridle hooks and a water tank round out the fit-out. Underneath, torsion axles smooth the ride and electric brakes work in all four wheels, with a newer aluminum floor and newer tires already fitted.

Two practical points before you order. First, confirm your ball: this trailer takes a 2-5/16 in coupler, and a 2 in ball will not hold it safely no matter how close it looks. Second, do the height check honestly. At 7 ft 2 in exterior height with a 6 ft 7 in width, this is a trailer for standard-size horses rather than tall warmbloods, so measure at the withers and add the headroom your horses actually need.
This is a 1999 unit, so treat the age as part of the purchase. When it reaches you, lift the mats and look over the aluminum floor, check the tire date codes even though the tires are described as newer, test every interior and exterior light, and run a hand along the roof seams. A light three-horse that has been kept up is a lot of trailer for the money, but the first hour of checks is time well spent.
Delivery to the Lower 48 costs nothing and Puerto Rico is a flat $550, usually arriving four to ten days after your bank transfer clears. Our 30-day return policy applies here as it does across the catalog, and you will find comparable rigs listed under three horse trailers.
