Description
Stay the Weekend Without Sleeping in the Truck
There is a clear line between a horse trailer you haul to a show and a rig you can actually live out of, and the 2004 Sundowner 3 Horse Weekender sits on the right side of it. The 7 ft short-wall living quarters carry a shower, a toilet, a sink and an electric refrigerator, with overhead cabinets for the rest. At 21 ft of floor length on a gooseneck hitch, it is a genuine base camp at the fairgrounds or the trailhead rather than an overnight compromise, and Sundowner’s name in the industry is part of why these hold their following.
The horse area is set up for comfort on the road. Windows drop down on the head side and slide open on the tail side, so air keeps moving through the stalls, which matters more than almost anything else on a summer haul. Padded dividers take the sting out of bumps and rubs, a collapsible rear tack holds gear tidily and then folds away to clear the full rear opening, and a load light makes an evening arrival straightforward. A walk-through door connects the horse area to the living quarters so you are not walking around the outside in the rain to check on a horse.

Living quarters add a second set of things to check. Run the water through the sink and shower, confirm the toilet and the refrigerator both work on the power source you plan to use, and look for the soft spots and staining that give away a slow leak around a window or roof seam. Then treat it as a used gooseneck: floor, brakes, tires, and a truck properly set up with a bed-mounted hitch and the payload to carry the pin weight. The quoted dimensions are approximate, so measure against your own horses if headroom is tight.
Against a bumper-pull three horse of similar capacity, the Weekender trades easy storage for stability at length and a place to sleep, which is the trade most people hauling to multi-day shows are happy to make.
