Description
One Trailer, Two Completely Different Jobs
Most horse trailers are shaped around a decision somebody made at the factory and cannot be unmade. The 2021 Shadow Trailers Stablemate is not one of them. Its tack wall folds in, and when it does the interior opens up end to end, turning a three-horse hauler into an open box you can fill with hay, fencing, feed or an oversized piece of equipment. For a smallholding or a boarding operation where the trailer is expected to do whatever that week demands, that single feature does more than any list of options.
The rest of the trailer is set up to support that flexibility. A dedicated front tack area keeps saddles, bridles and grooming kit organised and off the floor when the horse configuration is in use, and a large rear door makes loading straightforward whether what is going in has four legs or four pallets. Windows drop down on all four sides, letting daylight in from every direction and keeping the air turning over, which counts for the horses on a warm haul and for your own ability to see what you are doing in there.
Why a Bumper Pull at This Size
A bumper pull hitches to a standard receiver, which keeps the truck bed free, makes storage simpler and puts the trailer within reach of many three-quarter-ton and some well-specified half-ton trucks. Confirm the ratings against your own vehicle, but it is a far less committing setup than a gooseneck for anyone hauling three horses rather than six. At 6 ft. 9 in. wide and 7 ft. 6 in. tall, it is a full-size trailer rather than a compact one, and the extra height gives taller horses genuine clearance.

This Stablemate has had a previous owner, so a slow and methodical look-over once it lands pays for itself. Probe the floor for soft spots, particularly under the mats and at the rear where moisture collects. Check the tires by date code as well as tread, have the wheel bearings and brakes looked at by a trailer shop, and cycle every drop-down window and the tack-wall hardware to confirm the latches move freely rather than binding. On the towing side, work from your truck’s tongue weight rating as well as its tow rating, and remember that a trailer loaded with hay or equipment can weigh more than the same trailer loaded with three horses.
