Description
Slant Load, Insulated Roof and a Rear Tack That Folds Away
Ventilation is the quiet difference between a horse that travels well and one that arrives wrung out, and this 2010 Merhow was specified by someone who understood that. The roof is lined and insulated, every stall has its own roof vent, interior fans move air on still days, drop-down windows with bars open at the head side and sliding windows open at the hip side. Between them you can tune the airflow for a hot August afternoon or a damp spring morning rather than choosing between wide open and shut.
The slant-load layout contributes to the same goal. Standing at a diagonal, horses brace against the motion of the trailer more naturally than they can in a straight stall, and many arrive noticeably calmer after a long trip. An escape door from the first stall means you are never working your way past a horse in a narrow space.
Storage has been thought through at both ends. The front dressing room carries swing-out blanket bars, while the collapsible rear tack holds bridle hooks, a brush box, a carpeted door and wall and a removable saddle rack, then folds out of the way when you need the full width for loading. A factory-added rear ramp suits horses that prefer to walk up rather than step, and extruded aluminum sides keep the structure strong while holding the weight down. The trailer measures 7 ft tall, 6 ft 9 in wide and 17 ft long, and it has clearly been looked after.

Because this is a bumper pull rather than a gooseneck, your tow vehicle setup carries more of the responsibility. You need a receiver and ball rated for the loaded trailer, a properly adjusted brake controller and, on most half-ton trucks, a weight-distributing hitch is worth the money once three horses are aboard. Tongue weight is the number to watch; a slant load with a loaded front dressing room can put more on the ball than owners expect.
After delivery, pull the mats and check the floor, read the tire date codes, test the brakes and work the rear ramp and the collapsible tack through their full movement so you know the hinges and latches are sound. The stated dimensions should be treated as approximate, so measure against your own horses before you plan a long trip.
