Description
An All-Aluminum Gooseneck With Room to Spare
The appeal of this 2016 Sundowner is the gap between what it weighs and what it can carry. All-aluminum from frame to skin, it tips in at 4,050 lb empty yet carries a 13,000 lb GVWR, so there is close to nine thousand pounds of margin for three full-size horses, a loaded dressing room and everything else that travels to a show.
The layout is generous where it counts. A 4 ft short wall gives the dressing room real floor space for tack, blankets and a change of clothes instead of the token cupboard some three-horse goosenecks offer, while the 9 ft long wall keeps the stalls comfortable. A rear escape door adds a margin of safety during loading and unloading, which is the moment when most trailer injuries happen.
Aluminum construction pays off twice over the life of a trailer. It does not rust the way a steel frame does when mud and manure sit in the seams, and the lighter unladen weight eases the load on the tow vehicle and shows up at the fuel pump. The aluminum floor is the standout: wood floors in older trailers rot from underneath where you cannot see them, and this one simply does not have that failure mode.

Before ordering, check the truck side carefully. A 13,000 lb GVWR gooseneck needs a bed-mounted hitch rated for the load and a rear axle that can carry the pin weight, which usually puts this in three-quarter-ton or one-ton territory. If you are moving up from a bumper pull, expect the handling to feel steadier rather than twitchier, because the pivot point sits over the rear axle instead of behind it, and expect to relearn backing in tight yards.
On a used gooseneck of this quality, look over the aluminum welds at the stress points, check the floor and the axles, and work the coupler and jack through their travel when it arrives. The 7 ft inside height suits horses up to about 21 hands, so measure yours before assuming the fit.
Freight within the Lower 48 is included and Puerto Rico ships at a flat $550, generally four to ten days after your bank transfer clears. The shipping policy covers what the driver needs at the delivery point, and the rest of the three horse range is worth a look if you want a bumper pull instead.
