Description
Extra Headroom for Taller Horses, All Aluminum Throughout
Seven feet six inches of inside height is the reason to look at this 2013 Shadow 2HSL rather than the half-dozen other two-horse trailers in the same price range. That extra six inches over a standard 7-foot trailer, about 22.5 hands of clearance, is not a luxury for a 16-hand-plus horse. It is the difference between an animal that travels with its head in a natural position and one that spends the whole journey bracing against a low ceiling.
Everything about the structure is aluminum, which pays off in two directions on a used trailer. Corrosion is simply not the story it would be on a steel unit of the same vintage, and the light empty weight, around 2,800 lb, keeps this trailer within reach of tow vehicles that would struggle with a heavier steel equivalent.
The 13-foot box strikes a workable balance. It is long enough for two horses and a dressing room without the awkwardness of maneuvering an oversized rig into a crowded showground or a narrow farm gateway. A 2-foot short wall dressing room up front holds saddles, bridles, blankets and grooming kit in a dry space of their own, and the 7-foot long wall gives the stall area proper depth.

Note the outside width of 6 ft 9 in. That is narrower than the 7-foot trailers it competes with, which makes it easier to place on a tight barn approach but also means the stall space is correspondingly snug, so measure your horses across the shoulder. In effect you are trading a little width for a lot of height, and for owners of tall, narrow-framed horses that is the right trade.
The towing side is undemanding. At 7,000 lb gross with a 2,800 lb empty weight, a properly equipped half-ton truck handles it, though you want the brake controller set correctly and margin between your tow rating and the loaded figure rather than a number that only just clears.
On any used horse trailer, four components see the wear and deserve a careful look before the first haul: the floor beneath the mats, the wiring and lights, the brakes, and the tires, which should be judged by date code rather than by how much tread is left. Tandem axles and an included spare mean a roadside flat is an inconvenience rather than the end of the day.
We move it to you free anywhere in the Lower 48, charge a flat $550 for Puerto Rico, and most trailers land 4 to 10 days after your bank transfer settles. Keep comparing inside Two Horse Trailers, or tell us where it needs to go and we will price the delivery.
