An all-aluminum Featherlite two horse bumper pull with a 2 ft short-wall dressing room and a 15 ft box. At roughly 2,800 lbs empty against a 7,000 lb GVWR, it tows easily behind a half-ton truck or a capable SUV and leaves room for two horses and tack.

The Light Aluminum Two-Horse That Does Not Intimidate

Plenty of riders put off buying a trailer because the whole business looks like it demands a bigger truck than they own. The 1995 Featherlite 2HSLBP is the answer to that. Empty weight sits at roughly 2,800 lbs against a 7,000 lb GVWR, which puts it comfortably inside what a half-ton pickup or a properly rated SUV can handle, and a lighter trailer is more forgiving in crosswinds and far easier to back into a tight barnyard than something twice its mass.

Featherlite built its name on aluminum, and this trailer shows why that reputation stuck. Three decades on, an aluminum body is still presentable where a comparable steel unit would be bubbling along the seams and flaking at the fender lips. There is less to maintain, less to repaint, and nothing quietly rusting behind the mats.

The layout is deliberately simple: a 2 ft short-wall dressing room for saddles, bridles and boots, and a 7 ft long wall giving the horses adequate room to stand and travel. That compact dressing area adds storage without stretching the overall length or piling on weight, which is exactly the compromise a weekend rider wants. For lessons, trailheads and the occasional show, it does the job without asking much in return. Fewer moving parts also means fewer things to go wrong: there is no hydraulic ramp, no slide-out and no living-quarters plumbing to look after, just a trailer that hitches up and goes.

Specifications

  • All-aluminum construction
  • 2 ft short-wall dressing room with a 7 ft long wall
  • Two-horse bumper-pull layout
  • Tandem 3,500 lb axles on 15 in. tires
  • Manual jack and spare tire
  • Outside width 7 ft, inside height 7 ft
  • Box length 15 ft
  • Empty weight approximately 2,800 lbs, GVWR 7,000 lbs

A 7 ft inside height covers most standard-sized horses but is worth measuring against a taller animal before you commit, since headroom is the one dimension you cannot work around. The gap between the empty weight and the 7,000 lb rating leaves solid capacity for two horses and a dressing room full of tack. On a trailer of this vintage the checks that matter are the aluminum floor and crossmembers, the tires and wheel bearings, and confirming the lights and brakes respond properly through your own controller.

Compared with a newer steel two-horse at a similar price, you trade some age for a body that will still be sound long after the steel one has been patched twice.

There is no freight charge on Lower 48 deliveries, Puerto Rico is a flat $550, and most trailers are on their way within 4 to 10 days of a cleared bank transfer.
